The ad is a direct appeal to the people of Guam to help us root out cockfighting on the island because it is illegal, inhumane, and bound up with gambling. ”

— Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Animal Wellness Foundation (AWF) and Animal Wellness Action (AWA) today provided a preview of its 30-second television advertisement to air during Sunday’s Super Bowl on Guam. The ad features two Guamanians of Chamorro descent who describe cockfighting as “about gambling, not about our culture” and ending “the medieval practice of having animals fight and die for our amusement.”

A copy of the ad can be viewed by clicking here.

The ad will first air during the Super Bowl (Monday morning, Chamorro Time Zone), on FOX 6 and continue broadcasting throughout February on other television programs and networks. Animal Wellness is also running a heavy rotation of radio ads on KSTO, KISH and KTKB also throughout February. The groups previously placed a series of full-page newspaper ads in The Guam Daily Post and Pacific Daily News.

“The ad is a direct appeal to the people of Guam to help us root out cockfighting on the island because it is illegal, inhumane, and bound up with gambling,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “We know that the vast majority of citizens on Guam support our position – we just need to activate them so this criminal activity is no longer tolerated.”

The ads highlight that a poll conducted by Market Research & Development on Guam determined that 62 percent of Guamanians favor the federal ban on cockfighting. The television spot also touts the Animal Wellness rewards program – a $2,500 reward for any individual who provides critical information that results in a successful federal prosecution of an individual or set of individuals who violate the federal law against animal fighting.

Recently, AWF and AWA revealed that 137 individuals imported nearly 9,000 fighting birds onto Guam over the last three years. The top 10 importers of fighting animals on Guam received about 60 percent of the nearly 9,000 fighting birds. The top five exporters — working from Oklahoma, California, Hawaii, North Carolina, and Alabama — accounted for 52 percent of all cockfighting roosters sent to Guam.

Mr. Pacelle wrote to Guam Department of Agriculture Director Chelsa Muna-Brecht on two occasions to ask that she establish new protocols to forbid imports of fighting birds masquerading as “brood fowl.”

While the latest upgrade of the federal law forbidding cockfighting on Guam and in other U.S. territories took effect on December 20th, previously enacted provisions of the animal fighting statute starting back to 2002 (with felony provisions adopted in 2007) explicitly outlawed any shipment of fighting animals across state or territorial lines. The federal statute forbids the use of the U.S. Postal Service for these purposes, yet the birds inspected by Guam, according to sources, came through transports conducted through the U.S. mail.

AWF and AWA have set up www.endcockfighting.org as a comprehensive resource about the subject and an action center for citizens who want to help combat these animal cruelty crimes.

The Animal Wellness Foundation (Foundation) is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.

Animal Wellness Action (Action) is a Washington, D.C.-based 501(c)(4) organization with a mission of helping animals by promoting legal standards forbidding cruelty. We champion causes that alleviate the suffering of companion animals, farm animals, and wildlife. We advocate for policies to stop dogfighting and cockfighting and other forms of malicious cruelty and to confront factory farming and other systemic forms of animal exploitation. To prevent cruelty, we promote enacting good public policies and we work to enforce those policies. To enact good laws, we must elect good lawmakers, and that’s why we remind voters which candidates care about our issues and which ones don’t. We believe helping animals helps us all.

The number 1 booked school presenter in America, DeLeon is using the momentum of the Super Bowl to steer kids to a drug-free life.

Prevention is the key to ending the opioid crisis says Steered Straight CEO Michael DeLeon.

This generation is the most beautiful and most important generation we’ve ever had. Their voice is most vital to our future.”

— Steered Straight Founder and CEO Michael DeLeon

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — After his seminar at Miami Coral Park High School on January 28, Steered Straight Founder and CEO Michael DeLeon described the kids there as “absolutely incredible young adults” saying they “truly inspired me today. This generation is the most beautiful and most important generation we’ve ever had. Their voice is most vital to our future.”

DeLeon knows his drug prevention message is a matter of life or death. The CDC reports there were 47,600 overdose deaths in 2017, and while there are some bright spots, like a 5.1 percent decline in overdose deaths last year for the first time since 1990, it is still an extremely urgent issue.

A recovered addict, ex-offender and former gang member, DeLeon is an outspoken voice for drug education. He is in Miami this week, in partnership with Foundation for a Drug-Free World, for the Foundation’s annual Truth About Drugs Super Bowl campaign.

“Prevention is the key,” says DeLeon. “We must educate this generation to find their purpose and find their voice.” He is brutally honest when it comes to talking to youth about the extreme dangers of drugs, gang involvement and associated criminal activity.

To accomplish his mission, DeLeon uses the Truth About Drugs campaign and materials of Foundation for a Drug-Free World.

In an episode of Voices for Humanity on the Scientology Network, DeLeon described how his partnership with Drug-Free World began. One day, he googled “Drugs are a lie” and a video popped up.

“I watched it, and man, I could almost cry telling you about it right now,” and he said, “This is it!” The video was one of the Foundation’s drug education public service announcements. “So I went to Drug-Free World and I looked at their website and their setup and their materials.” He realized, “all I gotta do is start getting this stuff into the hands of these kids!”

On a mission to educate the youth to stay on the right path when it comes to serious life issues, especially drugs, DeLeon is the #1 booked school presenter on drugs in the country.

Consensus: Facebook Continues to Fall Flat on Its Face

The Leader in Innovation & Economy

Worldwide Coverage

Victimized businesses join international media & the U.S. Congress in condemnation

We took FB to court as a last resort. For years we simply made the same simple request for help. Unlike some giants, we at Innsys realize that our primary function is customer service.”

— Praba Gunam, Innsys, Inc.

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to such journalistic icons as Reuters, CNN, WAPO, BBC, The Guardian and other prominent members of the 4th Estate, Facebook – the ubiquitous “Goliath” of online social media – has found itself in a Battle of the Billionaire Titans. At stake is geo-political stability, national security, the balance of worldwide macro-economics, down to the individual rights that impact personal privacy, censorship and commercial enterprise. And now, there’s a minor-league “David” who has successfully upset the applecart.

Equally powerful, opposing forces, of the U.S. Congress and the world press, share equivalent resources and a mutual focus on influence, publicity and the business of generating revenue. Despite all the money and publicity nothing has, may never will have, changed among those who control the flow of information. There have been no results or resolution so far, nor will any in the foreseeable future, if ever. Yet, in a rare confluence of business, justice and morality, a “David”, Innsys, Inc., has actually prevailed in the arena of the Internet. A simple request for customer service has mushroomed into a court case wherein the good guys actually won.

Background: For more than a decade, Innsys has become a leading Canadian Internet Service Provider (ISP) to individuals and businesses throughout the Toronto, Ontario, Canada areas. The company continues to expand national and worldwide coverage as well as continually upgrade its offerings. Beginning with DSL internet accessibility, a spectrum of sophisticated technical innovations are included – from cell phones and VOIP capabilities to security systems to TV – and the company has earned licensure from regulatory agencies at all governmental levels and agencies.

In 2009, Innsys created a Facebook page in order to inform the public and promote its business. In 2011, hackers gained access to the company’s log-in password and took control of the account. Obsolete and inaccurate information was manipulated to the detriment and confusion of the public, the company and its customers. Product reviews and customer feedback were falsified. Current pricing, recent improved features, expansion of service areas and technological advancements quickly became out of date, as did important news and announcements.

Phase One: All attempts at routine troubleshooting failed. Facebook Canada, Ltd’s online “support” could only suggest those same standardized remedies (form e-mail) that had already been attempted multiple times. Innsys executives made a personal visit to Facebook Canada’s office and were assured that the issue would be escalated and resolved by higher-ups.

Phase Two: Having received no further response or resolution, the Innsys CEO directed that a follow up inquiry letter be sent to FB. Within a week, a response (form letter) was received, directing the victim subscribers to contact Facebook, Inc. (U.S.A.) or Facebook Ireland, Ltd. In other words, "Screw you and welcome to the black hole of an apathetic bureaucracy."

Fast Forward: Over the past years, Facebook exhibited no meaningful efforts to address the security concerns or breaches, or to maintain its own credibility or that of its members. Repeated requests to simply shutdown the account went unheeded. Certainly, there was never any investigation that might prevent other subscribers being victimized. Eventually and reluctantly, Innsys was forced to go court.

Outcome: Whereas national governments and the international press have failed to hold an amoral, negligent and out-of-control, “Goliath” such as Facebook accountable, the persistence of a dedicated “David” has recently, finally, received justice thought the courts. The $18,000 judgment is insignificant to any of the parties. The victory itself is a testament to one mid-sized organization’s commitment to individual rights and the very essence of customer service.

Commentary: Praba Gunam, speaking on behalf of Innsys, expressed disappointment in Facebook’s inaction that required litigation. “Our commitment is minimizing our customer costs, while maximizing service and services. We have an “A’ rating with the BBB & superior online ratings throughout the Internet. When our clients have a problem, we just fix it.”

Mr. Gunam went on to say that no parties ‘won’. “The monetary judgment will not compensate for the legal expenses, the man hours invested or the misinformation conveyed to the general public. Facebook can apparently afford to flout the fundamental principles of sound business practices and superior customer service. Those principles and that level of quality are our sole objectives. They will remain the same, whether we gross one dollar or a billion. We took FB to court as a last resort. For years we simply made the same simple request for help. Unlike some giants, we at Innsys realize that our primary function is customer service.”

Typically, asbestos exposure will have occurred sometime between the 1950s and the 1980s. Some of the most prevalent professions that encountered large quantities of asbestos include power plant workers, maritime workers, industrial workers, plumbers, pipefitters, electricians, mechanics, machinists, miners, railroad workers and construction workers, to name a few. Since the latency period for mesothelioma patients is approximately 40 years, most people diagnosed with mesothelioma or asbestos-related lung cancer in 2020 were exposed decades ago.

Those who worked in oil refineries and power plants in Illinois are most at risk for developing mesothelioma. Large oil companies including CITGO, Mobil, Shell and Standard operated refineries in the state. Power plants in Illinois where workers may have been exposed to asbestos include, Zion Nuclear Power Station, Powerton Powerhouse, Baldwin Power Plant, Crawford Generating Station, Dresden Generating Station, Emerson Electric Facility, Fisk Generating Station, Illinois Light & Power, Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Chicago Nuclear Powerhouse and Quad Cities Station.

Other jobsites with known asbestos exposure include A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, Dearborn Rubber Corporation, Freeman Coal Company, Kautt & Bux Manufacturing, LTV Steel, Pneumo Abex, Amoco, Johns-Manville Corporation, Kentile Floors Incorporated and Pittsburgh Plate Glass. Asbestos hazards also exist at Illinois Beach State Park in Waukegan, Illinois, where three million cubic yards of sludge containing asbestos and other toxins exists. Additionally, asbestos has been found at Dixie Square Mall in Harvey, Illinois and the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Roundup Options Legal Center of Georgia is dedicated to providing the best legal assistance to people stricken with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia from exposure to Roundup or other glyphosate-based weed killers. Anyone wishing to discuss their legal options should call (888) 891-2200 to speak directly with a member of the Steinberg Law Group.

The Roundup Options Legal Center of Georgia has endorsed the Steinberg Law Group because of their decades of experience in handling mass action and class action cases. With offices in New York, California and Texas, the Steinberg Law Group has a national footprint that helps them obtain the best possible financial compensation for clients.

Roundup is a glyphosate-based herbicide originally produced by Monsanto and introduced to the consumer market in 1974. Monsanto, which Bayer acquired in 2018, developed and patented the glyphosate molecule and retained exclusive rights to glyphosate in the US until its US patent expired in September 2000 (the patent expired earlier in other countries). As a result, today, many similar products use glyphosate as an active ingredient.

In 2015, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer identified glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen. Despite evidence that Monsanto and other producers of glyphosate-based herbicides knew of the probable cancer-causing effects of their products, consumers were not properly warned of the potential dangers. States with the highest risk of glyphosate exposure include Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio. On average, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma takes up to 10 years to emerge. Even if the exposure to glyphosate occurred outside of one’s home state, the Steinberg Law Group can still obtain the maximum financial compensation available.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and used Roundup or other glyphosate-based herbicides after 1990, the Roundup Options Legal Center of Georgia encourages calling (888) 891-2200 or visiting www.roundupoptions.com for more information.

Tom Girardi, Super Attorney, On Drunk Driving Myth’s that Put You in Danger

Tom Girardi, Acclaimed Attorney

By Tom Girardi, Super Attorney.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, January 29, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Despite the numerous precautionary tales in the media regarding drunk driving, people continue to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. One of the saddest truths about accidents involving a drunk driver is that they are completely preventable.

Like others here in Southern California, you do what you can to make sure you aren't the one out there putting people's lives in jeopardy. Unfortunately, you must constantly keep your eyes out for others who don't take the same precautions. Then again, some drivers believe certain actions will help them sober up right before they drive. Do these techniques work?

Drunkenness "cures" that don't work.

After having a few drinks, some know they probably shouldn't drive yet. But, they think they can "cure" their buzz and get on the road faster. Here are some common myths:

Eating a big meal or a bunch of bread will soak up the alcohol. Reality: Food may prevent some alcohol from entering your bloodstream if you eat it prior to drinking, but food cannot remove alcohol already in your system.

Taking a short nap will sober me up. Reality: It takes approximately 10 hours for alcohol to completely metabolize, so a person remains impaired after a short nap.

Drinking coffee will counteract the effects of alcohol. Reality: Caffeine may wake people up, but they will stay drunk.

Driving while under the legal limit is safe. Reality: A pocket breathalyzer may tell people they are under the legal limit, but that doesn't mean they don't feel the effects the alcohol has on their driving.

Unfortunately, too many people believe these myths and get behind the wheel. Drunk driving accidents are far too common, especially in the wee hours of the morning.

If you are in a car crash, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, compound fractures and other catastrophic injuries could leave you facing an uncertain future. Learn about your options for getting compensation for your injuries before making a deal with the insurance company.

Tom Girardi, Super Attorney

https://www.tomgirardi.com/

With nearly fifty years of experience representing victims, Girardi has obtained numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements, handling claims involving wrongful death, commercial litigation, products liability, bad faith insurance, and toxic torts. Thomas Vincent Girardi is a founding partner of Girardi & Keese, a downtown Los Angeles law firm. In 1970, Girardi became the first attorney in the state of California to win a $1 million-plus award for a medical malpractice case. Girardi has handled major cases against the former Lockheed Corp (now the Lockheed Martin Corp.), Pacific Gas & Electric Co, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and Hollywood's seven major movie studios.

In 2003, he received the most prestigious honor of being inducted into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the California State Bar. Mr. Girardi is a Member of the Board of Directors and former President of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only worldwide organization, limited to 500 trial lawyers. Mr. Girardi is also the first trial lawyer to be appointed to the California Judicial Council, the policymaking body of the state courts.
Albeit, one of the most influential lawyers of our time, Girardi amorously sites Perry Mason as one of his earliest childhood law inspirations. “He was a lawyer on television, 7pm on Saturday night and I would watch that show every Saturday,” states Girardi.

In one of Girardi’s better-known cases against Pacific Gas & Electric, the utility company agreed to pay $333 million to 650 residents of the desert community of Hinkley, California. The residents blamed incidents of cancer and other diseases on contaminated water leaked from a gas pumping station. This case was the inspiration for the film Erin Brockovich starring Julia Roberts.

In another high-profile matter, Girardi was among a group of lawyers who attempted to enforce in U.S. courts a $489 million default judgment entered by a court in Nicaragua, allegedly against Dole Food and Shell Chemicals based on the effects of the pesticide, DBCP, upon exposed workers. The U.S. courts found that Girardi and others had submitted a translation of the pertinent Nicaraguan documents that was flawed in crucial respects. Girardi and others were formally reprimanded, and their law firm was fined for violation of their duty of candor to the courts.

The Library of Congress has published a book in Mr Girardi's honor for his donation of Court Room illustrations. Mr. Girardi is a trustee for the Library of Congress and over the years he had a collection of some of the most famous court case drawings which he donated to the Library which created the "Drawing Justice" exhibit.

How to Prepare and Record deeds for timeshares located in California, Florida, Hawaii and Nevada by Deed and Record

California timeshare deed, Florida timeshare deed, Hawaii timeshare deed, Nevada timeshare deed

A deed is required to add or remove a spouse or other co-owner, to fund trusts or to gift a timeshare.

TImeshare deeds for California, Florida, Hawaii and Nevada”

— Mark W. Bidwell

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES, January 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — This Tip Sheet by Deed and Record explains how to change owners for timeshares located in California, Florida, Hawaii and Nevada. A change in owner is needed to add or remove a spouse or other co-owner, to fund a trust or gift a timeshare.

To replace a current owner of a timeshare with a new owner two events must happen. The first event is to prepare a timeshare deed, sign the deed and record the deed. Recording the deed notifies the general public who is the owner of the timeshare. The second event is to provide a copy of the recorded deed to the timeshare company. Copying the timeshare company informs them of a change in ownership.

A timeshare deed is a paper document signed by the current owner that transfers ownership in real property to another person. The owner either “grants” or “quit claims” ownership. “Grant” has implied warranties of valid ownership and disclosure of loans and liens on the real property. “Quit claim” is the equivalent of “as is.” A quit claim does not promise valid ownership and does not provide disclosure of loans or liens outstanding.

California, Hawaii and Nevada require an acknowledgement by a notary of current owner’s signature on the deed. Florida in addition to the acknowledgement, requires two witnesses of the current owner’s signature. After the deed is prepared and signed, the deed is recorded.

In Florida, deeds are recorded by county with the county’s courthouse. In California and Nevada deeds are recorded by county with the government entity referred to as the “recorder.” In Hawaii deeds are recorded with a statewide government agency called the “Bureau of Conveyances.”

After the deed is recorded, a copy of the recorded deed must be provided to the timeshare company to update their records of owners. The timeshare companies will have additional documentation requirements. Timeshare companies also require a fee to update their records. Fees vary from $25 to $500.

This Tip Sheet explains; how to change how a timeshare is owned. Change in owners is needed to add or remove a spouse or other co-owner, to make a trust the owner or to gift a timeshare. States covered in this Tip Sheet are California, Florida, Hawaii and Nevada.

If Congress fails to pass the Horseracing Integrity Act, & obstructionists within the industry continue to hinder the legislation, then those who demand horseracing be brought to an end will prevail.”

— Marty Irby, executive director at Animal Wellness Action

MOBILE, ALABAMA, USA, January 29, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The U.S. House of Representatives convened hearings this week to address long-standing animal welfare problems including the rampant race-day doping of horses thrust into competition that has led to dozens of horse deaths this month, including a spate at the New Orleans Fair Grounds and Racecourse.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce’s hearing entitled, “Legislation to Promote the Health and Safety of Racehorses” convened yesterday to hear H.R. 1754, the “Horseracing Integrity Act” led by U.S. Reps. Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Andy Barr (R-KY). U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL) was an early cosponsor of the 230 Members in the House who support the legislation, and also supported the bill in the 115th Congress as well.

Witnesses testifying in support of the measure included native Mobilian, Marty Irby, executive director at Animal Wellness Action, and a former 8-time World Champion equestrian rider who resides in Washington D.C.; and Chris McCarron, retired racing Hall of Fame jockey who won The Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes each twice.

Irby was recognized by President Donald J. Trump at the White House signing of the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act in November and named one of the Top Lobbyists of 2019 in December by The Hill for his work in protecting animals.

“The public sentiment is very rapidly shifting from a desire to end doping to concerns about the very existence of the sport itself,” Irby testified. “If Congress fails to pass the Horseracing Integrity Act, and obstructionists within the industry continue to hinder the legislation, then those who demand horseracing be brought to an end will prevail.”

“There are far too many horses becoming injured,” McCarron testified. “Instead of giving the animal the rest it needs, a trainer can rely on his/her veterinarian to administer a medication to mask pain by reducing inflammation caused by an injury.” He added, “This bill directly addresses one of the leading causes of breakdowns.”

“This hearing is an important step in furthering the conversation around the need for transparency and standardization in horseracing,” said Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY). “I look forward to a robust discussion with Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee and equine industry experts on how to ensure the integrity and safety of the sport. As the Representative of the Horse Capital of the World, I will continue to fight for the future of horseracing and build on this momentum to bring this vital legislation to the House floor for a vote.”

“Our modern-day society will not tolerate abuse or horse deaths for the purposes of entertainment – this isn't ancient Rome, it's 2020. There is no aspect of horseracing that should be more important than the protection of the horse,” continued Irby.

The Senate companion, S. 1820, was introduced by U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Martha McSally (R-AZ) in June of last year, but neither U.S. Senators Richard Shelby (R-AL), nor Doug Jones (D-AL) have joined in supporting the measure as a cosponsor.

Today horseracing operates under a balkanized patchwork of rules that creates confusion and risk and contains gaps in enforcement. H.R. 1754 would greatly improve regulatory standards, ban the use of all medications on race day, and level the playing field for everyone invested in horse racing.

The bill designates the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency as the independent organization that would oversee and administer all drug testing in U.S. horseracing. Delegating the authority for testing, oversight, and rulemaking to USADA is the cornerstone of this landmark legislation and a provision that is the most critical component for the protection of racehorses along with the legislation's specific ban on the use of race-day medication.

H.R. 1754 would provide USADA with the ability to impose penalties for cheating that apply nationwide: a lifetime ban for the most severe types of doping, and a range of penalties for other serious medication violations.
