US Judge Rejects Bid to Block UFC White House Event
Trump first announced plans in 2025 to stage a UFC title event on White House grounds as part of the America 250 celebrations, which coincide with his 80th birthday on Sunday. He described the occasion as “a birthday party the likes of which you have never seen.”
Preparations for the event have transformed the South Lawn into a temporary arena, featuring an octagon surrounded by thousands of seats and a large 28-meter steel structure dubbed “The Claw,” weighing around 600 tons.
The plan has sparked controversy, with critics accusing the administration of turning a national landmark into a venue for private commercial benefit. Legal action was filed last week by political activist Susan Douglas and Vietnam War veteran Paul Romano, represented by the anti-corruption group Public Integrity Project, seeking to halt the event.
The plaintiffs argued that officials were improperly relying on a federal exemption tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations to bypass standard permitting rules. They also claimed the event is being organized by private entities rather than the government and could financially benefit Trump through his stake in UFC parent company TKO Holdings.
