Court Order Leads to Removal of Trump Name from Kennedy Center Signage

(MENAFN) The name of US President Donald Trump has been removed from the exterior signage of the Kennedy Center in Washington, following a judicial order requiring its deletion.

According to reports and court documents, the performing arts institution confirmed that it has now fully complied with the ruling, stating that the president’s name has been eliminated not only from the building’s facade but also from its official website and other related materials.

The decision traces back to a federal court finding that the addition of Trump’s name to the venue was carried out unlawfully. The judge responsible for the case had instructed that the name be removed by Friday, June 12.

Work crews arrived at the site on Friday and began setting up scaffolding while crowds gathered nearby. However, thunderstorms temporarily delayed the operation, pushing the removal work into the early hours of Saturday. A late effort by the administration to suspend the order was also rejected by the court.

The dispute is part of a wider legal challenge concerning the naming of the cultural institution, which is officially recognized under US law as a memorial dedicated to President John F. Kennedy.

Outside the building, a small demonstration was held by a group calling itself Hands Off the Arts, which advocates for keeping artistic institutions free from government influence. As workers prepared the scaffolding around the signage, participants voiced support and chanted, "take it down!" while a spokesperson addressed the gathering through a megaphone.

The crowd reportedly reacted with celebration after being informed that an appeals court had also refused the administration’s second attempt to block the ruling.
