Attorney General Griffin Launches One Pill Can Kill Initiative at Arkansas State University-Beebe

BEEBE – Attorney General Tim Griffin issued the following statement after joining Arkansas State University-Beebe (ASU-Beebe) Chancellor Dr. Jennifer Methvin today to launch the One Pill Can Kill initiative at ASU-Beebe:

“ASU-Beebe is the 16th college campus in Arkansas to join the One Pill Can Kill initiative, marking our 21st training since launching the program in 2024. Today’s announcement was followed by a training for student leaders to educate them about the dangers of illicit opioids, help them know the signs of an overdose, and train them on how to deploy naloxone in the event of an overdose.

“We’ve brought the One Pill Can Kill initiative to campuses all over Arkansas, and at every school we’ve visited, I’ve been encouraged by the enthusiasm of the students. Teaching students to recognize the threat of illicit opioids and step up to help address it is incredibly important for our state’s future.

“We’ve trained nearly 3,000 students since we kicked off One Pill Can Kill in 2024, and we still have campuses yet to visit. Reports show that illicit opioid overdoses and deaths are declining, but the work is far from done. We need to do everything we can to educate young people to make wise decisions. Illicit drugs are often blended with fentanyl, shipped from China to Mexico, and then smuggled into the United States. It might seem like a harmless choice to take a pill at a party, but one pill could be the last decision a person ever makes. We’re helping avoid those tragedies through this training.”

Chancellor Methvin added the following statement:

“At ASU-Beebe, our connections to students reach well beyond the classroom. They are our neighbors, our coworkers and the people helping our communities thrive. Through One Pill Can Kill and our partnership with Attorney General Griffin, we have an opportunity to help students understand the dangers of fentanyl and share that knowledge with the people around them. We want every student to know the risks, look out for one another and feel comfortable asking for help.”
